About Me

Welcome to “Running Across the Pond”! No matter what side of the pond you’re on, thanks for stopping by!

I’m Taylor. And when I read other blogs, I’m like 90% interested in the person’s "About Me" section. So I guess I should try to tell a good life's story!

If you aren’t into the hefty About Me’s:
I’m a 24 year old expatriate, Anglophile, slow running, sarcastic, laughaholic with more knowledge of Harry Potter trivia than I know what to do with.

Hi! Nice to meet you!

If you’re like me and want a longer story, keep on reading…

I was born and raised in south Florida. With a strong dislike for heat and palmetto bugs, I always knew this location was not a good fit for me.

I’ve been obsessed with England since I can remember. I was always that weird kid that longed to live there for no apparent reason other than my obsession with Harry Potter and the sights of London.

But with no passport and no immediate reason to go to that country, I just put the dream aside, watched “Love Actually” on repeat, and obsessed over everything British.

But now, I actually DO have a reason! I am married to an amazing guy from none other than…. England! We tied the knot on the 8th of February, 2013 after over three and a half years of transatlantic dating.

(You can find out more about what my expat life is like here and here!)

This is Alex... and more snow than I know what to do with

I also do have other hobbies and interests besides obsessing over England.

On a complete whim, I made a new year’s resolution to “become a runner” going into 2011. Looking back I find this absolutely hilarious because I grew up a dancer.

Imagine this sparkly dancer running a 10K. Oh it happened. But not in this outfit.

To say I started off slow would be an understatement. I could barely run 30 seconds before my mind and my body just gave up. But it got better and easier as the year went on.

I’m still incredibly slow, but I’m more educated. I actually like to run, which I never thought would happen!

I've completely fallen in love with racing! My proudest moment so far has been finishing my first half marathon! I'm certainly not the fastest one out there, but I always try to give it my best! I'm proud to call myself a runner.

I have a bachelor's degree in psychology, but my dream is to work with kids. I'd really like to teach or be a school counselor.

I’m in love with owls, bright green (or anything resembling my birthstone), and obviously anything British (Union Jack flags, grilled to-MAH-toes for breakfast, tea with milk in it…)

Yes, I do believe this shirt was made for me.

I’m also a big fan of laughing, and an even bigger fan of laughing loudly. And often.

I think Garden State said it perfectly: “If you can't laugh at yourself, life’s gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like.”

What's weirder: me laughing inside the mouth of a hippopotamus statue, or the fact that a hippopotamus statue exists? Also note the pink wellies. This clearly isn't a fashion blog.

I probably laugh too hard at absolutely nothing. But I’ve been told my laugh is contagious, and that makes me happy! I hope my humor makes you happy, too!

  1. ahh this is so cute! my american boyfriend is moving here in January and i really hope he loves it as much as you do!! :) xx

  2. So exciting! I just moved to Dublin, Ireland from California. My husband was asked to open up a office for the company he works for. Its such an exciting opportunity. We'll be here for about 1-2 years. :) Just thought I was say hi to another expat!

  3. As much as I hate the cold, I would move to England in a heartbeat....mainly for the same reasons you listed. And also - it's something different.
